Say
anything you want about Microsoft, the guys and gals at Redmond really know how
to make computing peripherals. Enter exhibit A, the new Sculpt Ergonomic
Desktop keyboard. The “sculpt keyboard” is a thing of beauty to look at, with
its sleek and curvy design it almost looks like a prop you would find on the
set of a sci-fi movie. I hope there will be a silver version. Like its
predecessor, the sculpt keyboard has a split key layout that is molded in a way
that allows the users position the wrist and forearms in a more natural
position, alleviating fatigue as you punch-out lengthy emails and blog articles.
The palm rest is cushioned for added comfort.
Being
a Microsoft product it should come as no surprise that the new Sculpt keyboard
is optimized for windows 8 and 8.1 with shortcuts to the charms menu,
multitasking and media playback controls. Another unique design choice is the
separated number pad. This allows you to place it in any position that is more
suitable to your needs. The mouse is designed with ergonomic computing in mind.
It stands taller than most traditional mice so as to keep your wrist off the
desktop surface. This should help minimize carpel tunnel pressure. Thing is, most
people (myself included) tend to just rest their wrist on the surface of the
desk and then move there hand to manipulate the mouse. I can’t begin to tell
you how wrong that is! This is why you can spot us computer geeks from a mile
away! Just look for the wrist straps. Their is also a windows button on the
mouse itself to allow quick access to your windows 8 Tetri……..I mean start
screen, a back button and a four-way scroll wheel for horizontal and vertical
scrolling, always a plus in my book in fact four-way scrolling should be
standard on every mouse!
The
Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop Keyboard will be available this month for US$129.95
while the mouse will retail separately for US$59.95.
